Case 3 — The Temple Door

Case 3 — The Temple Door #

Every morning, Master Hong would open the temple door slowly, counting to ten.

A founder who stayed at the temple grew impatient with this ritual.

“Why waste time counting?” he asked. “The door only needs one second to open.”

Master Hong replied, “I do not count for the door.”

Weeks later, the founder deprecated a feature with short notice. He watched in dismay as his users revolted, taking to every forum in voicing their displeasure and vowing never to return.

The next morning, he watched Master Hong open the door. Now he saw that birds had made their nests in the doorframe, and each had the time to fly away.
